Gingi Lee originally established the centre in 1998. It began life as the Sangam Yoga Centre on Battersea Rise and has since moved to Balham where it has been renamed the Shala. This translates as a place of spiritual practice. For more than eight years it has gained a loyal following among ashtanga practitioners. Over the years it has evolved and became a hub and community not just for ashtanga yogis but also for pregnant women and mothers and babies. The continued presence of new life gives a special energy to the centre and brings the path of yoga full circle.
In February 2007, the centre moved to a charming mews house in Balham. The
oak-floored yoga room is small and intimate, with space for just 14 mats.
We have a therapy room upstairs where we will be offering many different
treatments.
Gingi Lee's vision and dedication to create a unique place to study yoga
has resulted in this new Shala. All the Sangam teachers have moved with
us and are very much a part of what the centre has become. We hope you will
find it a place of peace and serenity where you can deepen your yoga practice.
